Forum just for job seekers

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will hold a day-long forum that promises nearly 2,000 job vacancies at 10 major companies.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Labour said that 10 companies will look for staff during the event, which is to be held within the ministry’s compound at Russian Federation Blvd, (110) Phnom Penh.

Participants will have the unique opportunity of having an interview and knowing their results immediately.

The Ministry of Labour said the forum will be a full-day event, starting at 8am and finishing at 5pm.

The press release said that anyone who wishes to attend and search for jobs now can contact the Phnom Penh Job Centre of the National Employment Agency via phone 016 786 655 or www.nea.gov.kh and Facebook neakhmer.

Phnom Penh Job Centre deputy head Sambath Sokhon confirmed to The Post on Tuesday that the 10 companies attending are DKSH Cambodia, AMK MFI, Goodhill Enterprise, Online ISP Cambodia, Master Suki Soup, Aceleda Bank Plc., Royal Railway Co Ltd., Aeon Specialised Bank Cambodia, Palace Gate Hotel & Resort and Phnom Penh Land.

She said the companies were looking to recruit for a variety of positions in the banking, real estate, telecommunication and hotel sectors.

Sokhon said the forum will be a good opportunity for people without literacy skills or experience in job applications to come directly to speak with employers.

“Those who are searching for jobs can come directly to employers and the companies they would like to work for.

“They will be able to submit application forms and do an interview intermediately. It removes a lot of the application process and offers quick access to work.

“We don’t limit participants and offer job opportunities for those who are illiterate, and with low or high-level qualifications. Anyone who is of working age can be offered a job,” he said.

She also appealed to those who wish to search for jobs to submit their CV to get an opportunity to have an interview.

Center for Alliance of Labour and Human Rights (Central) executive director Moeun Tola said given the current situation, the announcement of job vacancies for Cambodians is a positive development.

“The Ministry of Labour should examine further possibilities so that people can get jobs. The forum offers people job opportunities, which is good, but some of the working conditions, benefits and salaries are not decent, so more needs to be done.

“The announcement is all well and good but fruitful will it be? Many people are not offered jobs when attending the forum. We want to know the real figures on how many people gain employment through these forums.

“Also, if people can’t or do not submit the application forms to attend, it means that the ministry’s forum has failed. What becomes of the announcement then?” he asked.

The ministry said this was the eight job forum to be held between January and March this year.

Hundreds of job seekers have been offered jobs. Those who wanted to get new experiences from private and state companies across the country have been employed, it said.
